Dan Todd played one of the innings of his life in the Cawston Press Village Cup fifth round as Horspath snatched a dramatic one-wicket win at home to Clydach in a last-ball thriller.
Chasing Clydach's 185-8, the opener compiled a well-made 83 off 107 balls to steer the Oxfordshire champions to the brink of victory.
With excitement mounting among the crowd of around 300 at a sun-drenched Recreation Ground, his excellent knock finally ended when he was the ninth wicket to fall with 11 still required to win from 10 balls.
That brought last pair Liam Turnbull and Ryan Hicks together as the last-32 tie came to a cracking conclusion.
Showing nerves of steel, they picked up three singles off the last three balls of Osian Davies's over to leave the hosts needing eight off the final over bowled by Josh Hallam.
A dot ball was followed by a wide, before Hicks and Turnbull picked up a single apiece. Hicks then edged a four past wicket-keeper Callum Hanney standing up to the stumps to leave Horspath within one run of victory.
No run was scored off the penultimate delivery before Hicks drove the last ball to mid-off and scampered through for the winning run to make it 186-9.
It sparked joyous celebrations before the teams left the pitch to a standing ovation following a fantastic contest.
Now Horspath take the next step on the road to Lord's with a last-16 tie at 1988 and 1990 national champions Goatacre (Dorset & Wiltshire), who beat Stithians (Devon & Cornwall) by 106 runs, on Sunday, July 5.
Hicks had also made the game's first notable impact when he bowled Jo Farthing in the third over after the Swansea-based visitors had chosen to bat.
The Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 2 hosts made it 25-2 with Hallam edging an Asad Rafiq delivery for wicket-keeper Stephen Green to take a diving catch.
Clydach had just reached 50 in the 12th over when Turnbull bowled Jamie Morgan. Opener Jonathan Hubschmid made a watchful 31 before being trapped lbw by Will Eason and it was 85-5 when captain Amin Rafiq bowled Hanney.
But then captain James Garland and Davies steadied the ship for the Glamorgan & Gwent champions with 61 for the sixth wicket without ever being able to dominate the spin of Josh Richardson and Amin, who removed both batsmen in the 36th over.
Davies (23) was well caught by Eason moving to his right at short third man, before Garland fell lbw for 47 attempting a paddle shot.
Theo Bowden blasted a six over long on before being run out by good work from Elliot Ruff, while Matthew Williams contributed a handy unbeaten 21 off 17 balls with the total boosted by 30 wides.
Amin (3-30) returned the pick of the Horspath figures well supported by Eason (1-30).
Jamie Lewis got Clydach off to a flying start with the ball when his fourth delivery saw Tom Nichols caught at slip by Hubschmid, who then pinned Ruff lbw to make it 14-2.
Tom Coleman fell in similar fashion to make it 34-3 as he attempted to turn a Harri Edwards delivery to leg.
Todd was then joined by Green, who was quickly into his stride pulling two boundaries behind square. The pair added 52 for the fourth wicket when Green was caught and bowled by Farthing for 27.
With the South Wales Premier Cricket League Premier Division 2 visitors' accurate attack well supported by some fine fielding, Richardson went lbw to one that kept low from Hallam to make it 109-5.
Todd completed a splendid half-century with a single into the covers, before increasing the tempo with a four through mid-wicket and a six over long on.
Amin launched two consecutive sixes over mid-wicket, but in attempting to hit a third off Hallam's next delivery he was caught at deep square leg by Bowden for 15 to make it 140-6.
Two runs later, Amin's brother, Asad, was run out at the bowler's end by a direct hit from Farthing at long on going for two.
Todd fired a six over long on towards the Village Hall and had moved the score on to 165 when Eason was bowled by Hallam.
A further 10 runs had been added when the opener's heroic innings, which included seven fours and two sixes, ended when he was caught by Farthing at deep mid-wicket in front off the packed spectators off Davies to set up that thrilling finish.
It was left to Hicks and Turnbull, whose contribution included a superb straight drive for four, to keep their cool and see Horspath home, with Todd man of the match.
The win equals the furthest the club have gone in the Village Cup, having reached the last 16 in 1979, when the run was ended by Ynysygerwn, and in 2023 and 2024 when Grampound Road proved the stumbling block.
Now Horspath will look to better that when they visit Goatacre.
