Coleman and Green set up Horspath win

18 May 2026

Tom Coleman and Derval Green hit half-centuries as Horspath opened their account in Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 2 with a 56-run victory over Wargrave at the Recreation Ground.

Coleman made 57 off 84 balls, while acting skipper Green smashed 53 from 28 deliveries in the hosts' 254 all out after they were put in to bat under grey skies.

Sravan Konidena (4-44), Tyron Eyles (3-27) and Green (3-44) then shared the wickets as Wargrave were bowled out for 198.

Konidena was completing a fine all-round effort after making 45 to set Horspath on the way to their challenging total as the club featured in competitive white ball cricket with black sights screens at the Rec for the first time.

The Oxfordshire all-rounder was quickly into his stride at the top of the order with Tom Nichols, fresh from his unbeaten century against Sandford St Martin in the Cawston Press Village Cup last weekend.

The pair had put on 48 for the first wicket inside seven overs when Nichols lofted a drive off Toby Greatwood to Euan Woods in the covers.

Konidena continued to bat fluently against his old club and had just smacked two legside sixes when he fell lbw attempting to sweep off-spinner Woods, making it 89-3.

Coleman and Stephen Green stabilised the innings with 61 for the fourth wicket, before the Horspath wicket-keeper was lbw attempting to reverse sweep Mark Frith's left-arm spin for 17.

Derval Green joined Coleman and increased the tempo with the pair adding 65 for the fifth wicket.

Coleman was the first to fifty when he clipped a four down to fine leg with Green following shortly after when he crashed a six over square leg.

But they then both perished in the same Woods over with Coleman spooning a leading edge to mid-wicket where Mayank Gudimetla raced in to take a diving catch, while Green skied an attempted drive to Rhys D Lewis in the covers.

Coleman's knock included seven boundaries, while Green's blitz featured three fours and five sixes.

Their dismissals sparked a lower order collapse as the last six wickets went down for 39 runs with Woods (5-47) and Firth (3-30) the beneficiaries.

Lewis and Fob Farina got Wargrave's run chase off to a brisk start with 67 for the first wicket inside 10 overs, before Green made the breakthrough.

Leading the side in place of injured captain Amin Rafiq, the Jamaican international knocked back Lewis's off stump with one that kept low after the Wargrave captain had made 34.

Tyron Eyles then trapped Farina lbw for 36 in his first over and followed up by bowling Gudimetla to leave the Berkshire club 100-3 in the 16th over.

Konidena returned to the attack to find Andrew MacEwen's edge with Nichols taking the catch at first slip to make it 114-4.

Woods (36) had moved the score on to 160 with Toby Greatwood when Green skidded another low delivery through the left-hander's defence.

Greatwood (23) and Avi Pasikanti (17) kept Wargrave's hopes alive before Horspath sealed victory with a late clatter of wickets with the last five falling for 10 runs.

Eyles claimed his third victim when Pasikanti edged into Stephen Green's gloves to make it 188-6, and without addition to the score Greatwood was lbw to Konidena.

The all-rounder then bowled Harry Whitworth and had Joe Priestley caught by Ryan Hicks at cover, before Derval Green wrapped up victory by bowling Finn Mercer.

The win leaves Horspath sixth in the table ahead of next Saturday's home game against second-placed Datchet, who made it two wins out of two with a 154-run victory at home to Ickenham.

It's part of a big weekend for the side with the Village Cup third round-tie - and area semi-final - away to Tiddington on Sunday. Cropredy entertain Langford in the other last-four Oxon tie.
