Horspath's outside chances of promotion from Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 2 were dashed by a strong Thame Town batting display and rain which led to the clash at the Recreation Ground being abandoned.
The hosts went into their penultimate game in fourth place knowing they must win their last two matches and hope other results went their way to snatch a top-two finish.
But they were frustrated by the mid-table visitors who posted 279-8 after deciding to bat before rain arrived in between innings.
It relented enough for Horspath to begin their reply with a revised target of 245 from 39 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
However, they had reached 15-0 off just 2.1 overs when the heavens opened again and the match was called off.
Earlier, Farid Butt and Ubaid Kiani had given Thame a purposeful start with 62 for the first wicket before Sravan Konidena made the breakthrough.
He bowled Butt for 25 and when Kiani bottom-edged an attempted hook off Liam Turnbull into Rob Wight's gloves for 30 it was 106-2.
But then Alex Tervet and Jonathon Jelfs added 94 for the third wicket.
Tervet had made 72 from 95 balls with seven fours and a six before he was bowled behind his legs by Konidena as he walked across his stumps to play to the onside.
Skipper Amin Rafiq then struck twice in the space off three balls with Jelfs stumped by Wight for 58 from 63 deliveries, which included six fours and a six, before Alex Browne was caught by Stephen Green at extra cover to make it 231-5.
Amin brought his brother, Asad, back into the attack and the seamer rewarded his captain with two wickets in as many balls, having Thame captain Hassam Mushtaq caught by Josh Richardson at long on for 18 before he knocked out Muhammed Amin's middle stump with a full-length delivery.
Konidena enjoyed more success when he bowled Dinushka Malan before the close of Thame's innings to finish with 3-54. Asad took 2-38 and Amin 2-62, while Turnbull with 1-34 off nine overs was the most economical of the home attack.
But then the rain arrived and although it stopped to allow Tom Nichols and Konidena to make a positive start to Horspath's innings it returned with avengeance to end the game.
Horspath remain in fourth ahead of their final game next Saturday at fifth-placed Datchet, who beat relegated Falkland by six wickets on DLS in a rain-affected encounter.
