Horspath 2nd triumph as wickets tumble

28 Jul 2025

Horspath 2nd skittled Oxford 2nd for 54 at the Recreation Ground before securing a four-wicket win to extend their lead at the top of Cherwell League Division 2 to 13 points.

The visitors had reached 28-1 after being put in to bat only to collapse in dramatic fashion with the last nine wickets falling for just 26 runs.

Seamer Josh Cummings and spinner Joval Calix were the chief destroyers, both taking 3-6, before Luke Heritage (2-3) polished the innings off inside 28 overs with Robert Keat (15no) left undefeated.

It was far from plain sailing for Horspath, though, when they came to bat as, after moving to 26-0, the wickets tumbled before victory was finally achieved at 57-6 from 23 overs.

In a crazy game which saw 16 wickets fall for 111 runs, opener Robbie Eason's 15 was enough to make him Horspath's top scorer.

With nearest challengers Westbury being held to a draw at home to Brackley, the win saw Horspath increase their advantage ahead of Saturday's trip to seventh-placed Minster Lovell, who beat Tiddington by five wickets.
