Heritage's 6-20 sparks Horspath 3rd win

14 Jul 2025

Luke Heritage returned his best Cherwell League figures of 6-20 to set second-placed Horspath 3rd on the way to a nine-wicket win at home to bottom club Dorchester-on-Thames in Division 4B.

The off-spinner's superb haul came from 17 overs, which included nine maidens, as Dorchester were restricted to 100-8 from 53 overs.

His six of the best bettered his 5-33 for Horspath 4th at Bicester & North Oxford 2nd in 2017.

Nishi Ranasinghe (1-13) and Joe Gibbs (1-18) picked up the two other wickets to fall - both from tight 11-over spells - as Ali Line made a patient 44 not out.

Ehsan Hussain then followed up his maiden Cherwell half-century for the 4th XI last week with an unbeaten 59 off 44 balls to steer Horspath to victory at 102-1 off just 12.4 overs.

He smashed six fours and four sixes in his whirlwind knock, sharing an unbroken second-wicket stand of 60 with Alfie Turner (29no).

Horspath will seek to maintain their promotion push on Saturday when they visit third-placed Stonesfield, who lost by five runs at Chipping Norton.

Horspath 4th shared the spoils in a well-contested draw at Stokenchurch 2nd in Division 6C.

The Bucks club posted 240 all out after electing to bat as Oxfordshire veterans Robin Pykett (3-44) and Adrian Manger (3-63) led the Horspath attack.

The pair both benefitted from some smart glovework by Oliver Taylor, who claimed three stumpings.

Stokenchurch's score was built around half-centuries from Paul Maddock (58) and Huzaifa Latif (56) with skipper Jack Springett (40) and Leigh Reason (36) providing good support.

Captain Craig Wharton (47) and Archie Lewins (45) put on 64 for Horspath's second wicket before the side slipped to 81-5 as Latif picked up 3-16.

With the target well out of reach, Manger (35no) saw the side to the close at 152-6.

Horspath remain eighth ahead of Saturday's home game against third-placed Bledlow Ridge 2nd, who lost to Abingdon Vale 2nd by two wickets.
