Hicks's 5-19 triggers Horspath 2nds' victory

01 Jul 2025

Skipper Ryan Hicks claimed his second five-wicket haul of the season and Dom O'Connor made 71 as Horspath 2nd recorded a six-wicket win at home to Wolverton Town to storm 26 points clear at the top of Cherwell League Division 2.

Hicks took the last five wickets to fall, finishing with 5-19 off 6.5 overs, as bottom club Wolverton caved in to 162 all out after being put in to bat.

His haul included Ahmed Mujtba, who held the visitors' innings together with 59 from 77 balls, which included four fours and three sixes, before falling to a third stumping by Tejas Anand.

Hicks, who returned stunning figures of 5-10 in the opening day win at home to Tiddington, was well supported by fellow left-arm spinner Sam Leslie (2-38).

O'Connor then led Horspath to victory, passing 50 for the second time this season with one of 13 fours in his 113-ball knock.

He shared a second-wicket stand of 50 with Dan Todd, before becoming the fourth wicket to fall when he was caught by Saqib Akhlaq off Mujtba (2-26), making it 123-4.

It was left to brothers Robbie (29no) and Will Eason (17no) to see Horspath home at 163-4.

Horspath will be looking to consolidate their points cushion on Saturday when they visit third-placed Westbury, who were bowled out for 55 in a 145-run defeat at Tiddington.
