Sharif stars as Horspath 3rd go top

04 Jun 2025

Azlan Sharif made a half-century as Horspath 3rd triumphed by five wickets at home to leaders Kingston Bagpuize to take over at the top of Cherwell League Division 4B.

The visitors' success was built on a fine display in the field which saw the hosts collapse in dramatic fashion from 125-2 to 150 all out after they had elected to bat.

Horspath looked as if they could be facing a big target as opener Jonathan Warner made 53 from 89 balls with six fours.

But after he was dismissed by Dougal Main (3-42) the home side folded with Nishi Ranasinghe (4-28) and Luke Heritage (2-31) also enjoying success as the last eight wickets fell for just 25 runs.

Sharif led the way in Horspath's reply with a patient 52 off 107 balls, which included nine fours.

He took the visitors to the brink of victory in a fifth-wicket stand of 53 with Main (30no) before he was caught by William Woodley off Jordan Smith.

It was left to skipper Mohson Rana to hit the winning boundary and see Horspath home at 153-5.

The win puts Horspath two points clear of Charlbury at the top ahead of Saturday's trip to sixth-placed Stanton Harcourt, who lost by 95 runs at Chipping Norton.
