Horspath sign Jamaica star Derval Green

23 Apr 2025

Horspath are set to move to the rhythm of the calypso beat after signing Jamaican international all-rounder Derval Green for the 2025 Home Counties Premier Cricket League campaign.

A right-arm medium-fast bowler and right-handed batsman, the 36-year-old will bolster Horspath's squad as the club return to Division 2.

Director of Cricket Will Eason said: "I'm delighted to welcome Derval to the club, in what is going to be a crucial year for the first team on the pitch.

"Derval has an incredible amount of experience, with his first-class career spanning the best part of a decade, not only with plenty of wickets, but also contributing lower down the order with crucial runs at a high level as well as batting up the order in club cricket.

"He has previous experience of playing in the UK, which will certainly help him settle in quickly, as well as being keen to help develop our junior section.

"We are all very much looking forward to his arrival and seeing him perform throughout the season."

Green has a wealth of experience in West Indies domestic cricket.

Making his Jamaica first-class debut against Guyana at Providence in 2016, he has played 42 matches, claiming 113 wickets at an average of 24.60 with a best return of 5-30 and match figures of 9-160. He has also hit 1,337 runs at 20.25 with a top score of 86.

Green had made his List A debut for his country against the Leeward Islands at Port Of Spain the previous year, making 24 appearances at that level and playing four T20 games for Jamaica Tallawahs under the captaincy of West Indies legend Chris Gayle.

In June 2018, he represented West Indies B in the inaugural Global T20 tournament in Canada.

This call-up curtailed his first English summer for Carlisle in the North Lancs and Cumbria Premier League.

Prior to his departure, he had starred with 25 wickets at 10.52 together with 199 runs at 28.43, which included an explosive 94 in the Higson Cup against Cockermouth.

Having also shone in various tournaments in the United States, he returned to the UK last year, playing for Scottish club Ayr where he took 22 wickets at 12.86 and scored 333 runs at 22.20.

An ECB Level 2 coach, Horspath are also looking forward to him helping with the development of the club's promising youth players.
