Members of Horspath CC are invited to take part in a Charity Fun Tape Ball Cricket Six-A-Side Competition at the Recreation Ground on Sunday, August 25.
The event is being held to raise funds for Thames Valley Air Ambulance (TVAA) and the club.
TVAA has been chosen as the charity after the club lost two prominent members earlier this year in Max Eason and Tommy Pritchard. Max was attended to by paramedics from TVAA, while Tommy was airlifted to hospital.
TVAA are grateful the club have thought of them and are looking forward to supporting the event. They may even enter a team!
The competition, which is due to take place from midday onwards with play starting at 12.30, is for club members, friends and family.
To involve all sections of the club it's planned that teams should be made up of three men's cricketers, a women's cricketer, a junior player plus a supporter/parent.
So, what is Tape Ball?
Tape Ball is a tennis ball wrapped in electrical tape, and as such the modified ball is not as hard or heavy as a cricket ball, reducing the risk of injury to players and spectators, and thereby, making the event more accessible to all.
There are several ways to get involved.
1 Sign up to play (details are on the noticeboard in the clubroom) with team members asked to make a nominal donation to charity to take part.
2 Volunteer to help on the day. It's planned to have a BBQ and the bar will be open all day.
3 Donate prizes for a raffle and possibly an auction, which are to be held on the day. All prizes/donations will be gratefully received.
Music is set to be played during the games, and plans are in the pipeline for musicians/bands to play after the competition from 6pm into the evening.
For more details, please contact secretary Russell Smith, Stuart Bishop, Jenny Carter or chief organiser Diddy. All ideas etc for the day are welcome.
Please support the club in this fundraising effort.
