Horspath 3rd stun leaders to open account

Horspath 3rd got off the mark in Cherwell League Division 3A with a surprise five-wicket win at leaders Bledlow Village.

A fine display with the ball saw Horspath bowl the unbeaten table-toppers out for 105 after putting them in to bat.

Ed Oakley (2-27) led the way by reducing Bledlow to 11-2, before Josh Cummings chipped in with 2-31 and Dougal Main (3-18) polished off the innings as only Teddy Purushothaman (30) provided any resistance.

Tom Betts then smashed two sixes in an unbeaten 42 to steer Horspath home at 106-5 after David Pearce took 3-30.

The side will be looking to continue their improvement at home to Aston Rowant 3rd next Saturday.

Horspath 4th slipped to an 82-run defeat at home to Risinghurst in Division 5C.

The hosts produced a good effort in the field as Risinghurst were bowled out for 177.

Adittya Nair, 13, impressed on debut with 3-12 off six overs, while Stuart Berry took 3-44 supported by Tom Smith (2-34) and Nahim Khatib (3-44).    

Kunal Bhardwaj hammered 54 off 36 balls with five fours and four sixes for the visitors after opener Arun Thiruchelvam made 39.

Horspath were then bowled out for 95 with George Crawford (27) top-scoring after skipper Craig Wharton made 24.

Sourav Mondal (4-32) and Rajaguru Periasamy (3-24) were the chief destroyers.
