Horspath 4th roar back to top spot
31 Jul 2023
HORSPATH 4th stormed back to the top of Cherwell League Division 6A after shooting out hosts Buckingham Town 4th for just 30 to seal a crushing 157-run victory.
Fresh from securing a place in the Steve Dixon Memorial Cup final, Craig Wharton's double-chasing side were in irresistible form again.
Azlan Sharif hammered 70 and Wharton weighed in with 48 as Horspath posted 187-9 dec after being put in to bat at Gawcott.
Carrying on from where they left off with their unbroken 104-run partnership in the cup win against Risinghurst 2nd, the pair this time added 68 for the second wicket with Sharif hitting five fours in his 102-ball knock. Alex Romaine (4-19) was Buckingham's leading wicket-taker.
The hosts then had no answer to Stuart Berry (4-9) and Adrian Manger (4-15) who ripped through their batting.
Manger's haul included a stunning catch behind square leg by Chris Jones, who reacted sharply to clutch a fiercely driven shot at head-height.
It was left to Robin Pykett and Ben Wise with a wicket apiece to wrap up the innings as not one Buckingham batsman made double figures.
With leaders Watlington losing by 103 runs at Great Brickhill 3rd, Horspath have leapfrogged their title rivals and now have a 12-point cushion at the summit.
