Jones rolls back the years for Horspath 4th

22 May 2023

CHRIS Jones shrugged off a thigh strain to roll back the years and hit an unbeaten half-century as Horspath 4th recorded back-to-back wins in Cherwell League Division 6A with a six-wicket victory at home to Watlington.
Having bowled the visitors out for 129 after putting them in to bat, Horspath always looked in control while Jones was at the crease.
He picked up the injury midway through his innings, but with skipper Craig Wharton acting as a runner, he battled on to make 55 not out and see the side home at 132-6.
His gritty knock included six fours and was his first league half-century since making 81 for Horspath 2nd against Bledlow Village in Division 2 five years ago.
Earlier, Ben Wise had impressed in Watlington's innings with 3-31 before Robin Pykett (2-14) and Adrian Manger (2-17) kept a tight rein on the visitors.
That left Tom Smith (3-9) to mop up the tail with his haul including top scorer Charl Maughan (30).
The win sees the side go joint top with Bledlow Ridge 2nd.
