Horspath 2nd crowned Cherwell champions

29 Aug 2026

Horspath 2nd etched their name in the club's history books by being crowned Cherwell League champions after their clash at Dinton was abandoned due to rain.
It's the fourth time the club have won Division 1 following title triumphs in 2010, 2013 and 2024 but the first time it has been done by the 2nd XI.
In fact, Horspath become only the third 2nd XI in Cherwell history to capture the crown following Aston Rowant 2nd (2016) and Banbury 2nd (2022).
Horspath went into their penultimate game with a commanding lead and, with all the top-flight matches falling victim to the weather, Ryan Hicks's side retain now have an unassailable 38-point advantage going into the final round of matches.
The encounter at Dinton was the only Division 1 game to see any play and Horspath had reduced the hosts to 109-8 off 32 overs when rain brought an early finish.
Ed Oakley was the chief destroyer with 3-45, including top scorer Waqar Mohammed (28), to take his tally for the season to 34 wickets - the second best in the division.
Josh Cummings picked up 2-9 from six overs, while there was a wicket apiece for Will Eason, Hicks and Dan Todd.
It's an outstanding achievement by the side who were only promoted back to the top flight as Division 2 runners-up last season after missing out on the title by a single point to last-day opponents Westbury.
Horspath will seek to set the seal on their championship success when in a quirk of the fixtures they again host Westbury in their final game next Saturday.
