Oakley's 5-13 helps Horspath 2nd storm clear

28 Jul 2026

Ed Oakley starred with 5-13 as Horspath 2nd roared 34 points clear at the top of Cherwell League Division 1 with a seven-wicket demolition of Didcot at the Recreation Ground.

The seamer's superb haul came off eight overs and helped shoot out the visitors for 85 after they had chosen to bat.

Didcot were already in disarray at 25-4 after Josh Cummings (3-14) and Will Eason (1-21) did the early damage, before Oakley ripped through the rest of the order.

He ensured there was no way back for the south Oxfordshire side as the wickets continued to tumble with only Jack Hillier (43) providing any resistance.

Horspath then coasted to victory at 87-3 with opener Dan Todd (24) leading the way.

It saw Horspath extend their advantage at the summit ahead of Saturday's trip to second-placed Oxford Downs 2nd, who drew with Aston Rowant 2nd.

Horspath 3rd's seven-match winning streak in Division 3B ended with a seven-wicket defeat at home to Wolverton Town.

The hosts were bowled out for 125 after being put in to bat with only captain Mohson Rana (37) holding up the visitors as Atif Akhlaq (6-35) wreaked havoc.

With Jamil Raja (56no) and Nikhil Panchal (29) putting on 72 for the first wicket, Wolverton eased home at 130-3 despite Jason Cardy picking up 2-42.

Horspath remain second but are now 35 points adrift of leaders Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts going into Saturday's visit to Aston Rowant 3rd, who beat Buckingham Town 2nd by 81 runs.

Horspath 4th slid to 77 all out and a nine-wicket defeat at Long Marston 2nd in Division 6C.

The visitors had no answer to Laura Sandy (5-36) and Yogesh Mistry (3-17) after choosing to bat.

Despite Sifat Habibi striking with the first ball of Long Marston's innings, Philip Thurairajah (47no) and Gavin Thurairajah (13no) then saw the hosts home at 79-1.

The side are at home on Saturday to second-placed Bradenham, who edged out Bledlow Ridge 2nd by one wicket.
