Main's super all-round show sparks Horspath 3rd

08 Jul 2026

Dougal Main produced a stunning all-round display with an unbeaten 75 and a five-wicket haul to fire Horspath 3rd to a resounding 138-run win at Bicester & North Oxford 2nd in Cherwell League Division 3B.

Main blasted six fours and three sixes in his 65-ball knock to take the visitors to 250-8dec off 51 overs after being put in to bat.

And he then shone with the ball by taking 5-30 to send Bicester crashing to 112 all out.

Tejas Anand, with 56 off 58 deliveries which included 10 fours, and Ehsan Hussain (19) laid the foundations for Horspath with 55 for the opening stand.

Tom Betts (33) and James Boden (28) made handy contributions, before Main took centre stage with some lusty blows as Luke Chowns finished with 5-74.

Main then got stuck into the Bicester batting during a devastating 8.2-over spell to complete the relatively rare feat of a fifty and five wickets in the same match.

Luke Heritage (4-24) provided good support after Zach Rayner (1-22) made the breakthrough.

Main's wickets featured two catches by Boden, while short leg specialist Eddie Gadd snapped up three catches in Heritage's haul, including top scorer Sam Mendis (30).

The side remain third ahead of Saturday's trip to Buckingham Town 2nd, who lost to Bledlow Ridge by six wickets.

Horspath 4th went down by two wickets in a low-scoring encounter at home to Oxford 3rd in Division 6C.

Andy Cummings (25) top-scored as the hosts, who gave a league debut to club stalwart Richard Hofen, were bowled out for 117 after being put in to bat with Mamun Ahmed (5-34) and Lewis Drummond (3-28) doing the damage.

Sifat Habibi, with 3-15 off 12 overs including six maidens, Adrian Manger (2-28) and Robin Pykett (2-32) held Oxford in check and there was a wicket for Pankaj Chawla on his return to the club after nine years.

But despite Horspath's best efforts, the visitors got over the line at 118-8.

The side stay eighth going into Saturday's home game against Little Gaddesden, who beat Kimble by six runs.
