Finch fires maiden Cherwell ton for Horspath 3rd

30 Jun 2026

Luke Finch hit a sparkling maiden Cherwell League century to power Horspath 3rd to a fourth straight win in Division 3B with an 88-run victory at home to Wolvercote.

The left-hander made a cracking 122 off 125 balls with 14 fours and a six to set the hosts on the way to 259-7dec in support of captain Mohson Rana's decision to bat first.

He shared an opening stand of 88 with Tejas Anand (35), before adding 94 for the second wicket with James Boden (40).

Finch, whose previous Cherwell best was 86 for Cumnor 2nd at Abingdon Vale 2nd in Division 5 nine years ago, went to a terrific hundred with a four through square leg.

He continued to rack up the runs before being caught by Usman Younis off captain Samir Khan (3-36) to make it 220-3.

Following the declaration, Dan Stanley (2-48) removed both Wolvercote openers.

Suleiman Ayyaz made a breezy 33 before falling to Julius Leslie, whose excellent spell of 4-15 from eight overs sent the visitors tumbling to 66-6.

With Jason Cardy and Luke Heritage (2-15) chipping in, Wolvercote were on the brink at 116-9.

However, Horspath's victory charge was held up for the second successive by the opposition last pair.

Bharat Ramanathan, who had dug in, added 55 with Vigneshan Seshamany, before his defiant knock of 61 from 136 deliveries ended when he was bowled by Ehsan Hussain to leave Wolvercote 171 all out with three balls left.

The win moves the side up to third going into Saturday's game at bottom club Bicester & North Oxford 2nd, who drew with Buckingham Town 2nd.
