Konidena repeats century heroics in Horspath win

02 Jun 2026

Sravan Konidena repeated last season's superb century at unbeaten leaders Gerrards Cross as Horspath made it three straight wins in Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 2 with a 27-run victory.

The opener, who made a brilliant 130 in a four-wicket win at the Bucks club last August, this time hit 104 from 124 balls after the visitors were put in to bat and posted 251 all out.

He shared a stand of 112 for the third wicket with Tom Coleman, who contributed a fluent 47 before being caught by Chris Marrow off Liam Sullivan to leave Horspath 161-3.

Acting skipper Derval Green chipped in with a breezy 23 to keep the scoreboard ticking before Konidena reached three figures with a single.

He added a tenth boundary to go with three sixes before he was bowled by James Dalby (3-67) to make it 223-6. Late wickets fell in the chase for runs with Harry Spear (4-28) mopping up the tail.

Horspath had still posted a challenging total, though, and they then produced a fine display in the field to bowl the hosts out for 224.

Henry Walsh and Hugo Hammond got the leaders off to a brisk start with 42 for the first wicket, before the introduction of Ryan Hicks made the breakthrough.

Hammond hit the left-arm spinner's third delivery into Green's hands and he followed up by trapping Marrow lbw to make it 57-2.

Ben Spencer joined Walsh to steady the ship. The pair had added 61 for the third wicket when Josh Richardson's leg spin accounted for Spencer (27) with Jehan Mohammed snaffling the catch to leave Cross 118-3.

Walsh continued to score freely, though, to keep the hosts well ahead of the run rate, completing his half-century in the process.

But Horspath then struck two crucial blows in the space of three balls with the score on 148 as Dominic O'Connor ran out captain Teddy Fleming for 15, before Green shattered Najeeb Malik's stumps.

Will Moore, on his Home Counties debut, claimed his first victim when Matthew Pannett edged into Robbie Eason's gloves and it was 173-6.

Richardson (2-34) picked up the key wicket of Walsh. The opener had made a fine 93 from 95 balls with 11 fours and three sixes when he was caught by Green.

Horspath sensed their chance and the combination of Green and Hicks delivered the final blows. Sullivan edged behind off Hicks, before Aarons gave Eason a third victim when he nicked a Green (2-68) delivery.

It was left to Hicks to wrap up victory by accepting a caught and bowled chance from Dalby to finish with fine figures of 4-41 as Cross were all out with 8.4 overs still remaining.

Horspath remain in fourth place but are now only four points behind table-toppers Cross ahead of Saturday's home game against Stoke Green, who lost by 21 runs at home to Datchet.
