Asad Rafiq compiled a well-made 72 for a maiden Home Counties Premier Cricket League half-century as Horspath ended their Division 2 campaign with a five-wicket defeat at Datchet.
Following a strong showing in their first season back in the league, Horspath's loss saw them swap places in the table with Datchet as the sides finished fifth and fourth respectively.
Asad, Horspath's leading wicket-taker with 29 victims, showed he can also be effective with the bat by racking up nine fours and a six in his 82-ball knock to steer the visitors to 238 all out after being put in to bat.
However, it didn't prove enough as with Horspath using nine bowlers in this end-of-season encounter Datchet raced to victory at 241-5 off just 32.4 overs.
Sravan Konidena and Tom Nichols had given the visitors another solid start. They put on 55 for the first wicket before Konidena, the side's leading run scorer, having taken his tally for the campaign to 469 was bowled by Charlie Jackson for 10.
Nichols cracked eight boundaries in a fluent 41 before he was trapped lbw by Daniyal Akhtar to make it 70-3. Tom Coleman (19) and Derval Green (21) got starts only to fall to left-arm spinner Yousef Majid as Horspath slipped to 119-5.
Asad rebuilt the innings with his brother and skipper, Amin, adding 53 for the sixth wicket, before the captain was stumped by Joe Thomas off Jack Laraman for 18.
Asad brought up his fifty with a boundary and pressed on until he drove a delivery from Steven Naylor into George Hooper's hands at cover. Tyron Eyles chipped in with a brisk 30 before Horspath were bowled out in the penultimate over with Laraman finishing with 4-34, while Jackson picked up 2-32 and Majid 2-38.
Sam Leslie made the breakthrough in Datchet's innings by claiming his first Home Counties wicket when Shahbaz Azizullah was caught by Eyles for 11 and when Asad knocked out Akhtar's off stump the hosts were 23-2.
But then Naylor and Laraman shared a stand of 91 for the third wicket. Naylor had made a run-a-ball 56 with 10 fours when he was bowled by Josh Richardson to make it 114-3.
Dougal Main marked his Home Counties debut by having Nick Kimber caught by Leslie for 23 after adding 54 for the fourth wicket with Laraman, who moved on to 77 with eight fours and three sixes off 67 deliveries, before being bowled by Eyles.
That made it 189-5, but there was to be no further joy for the visitors as Thomas smashed an unbeaten 37 off 16 balls to see Datchet home with Majid (22no).
