Horspath CC auction Oxford Utd items for charity

19 Aug 2025

Horspath CC have some fantastic Oxford United items to auction at their Charity Fun Tape Ball Cricket Six-A-Side Competition at the Recreation Ground on Bank Holiday Sunday, August 24.

Many thanks to those who have donated lots for the event, which is a fundraiser for Sobell House Hospice.

Bidding is now open for the following three items, to be submitted to hcc.secretary@live.co.uk with the sale to be finalised on the day.

1) An Oxford United shirt signed by the club's former defender, Rob Atkinson. Bidding currently stands at £20

2) Two hospitality box tickets for an Oxford United game (to be arranged) courtesy of Iris VBS Fire & Security

3) Goalkeeper's gloves signed by the Oxford United keepers

Further auction items are in the pipeline with bids accepted up to and throughout the day.

Raffle tickets are also being sold with more fabulous prizes including meal vouchers, an MOT and a photo shoot.

All additional auction and raffle prizes will be gratefully received.

Meanwhile, it's full steam ahead with preparations for the event, which is set to see matches take place from 11am.

To involve all sections of the club it's planned that teams will be made up of two men's cricketers, a women's cricketer, a junior player plus two supporters/parents.

And so the format can be finalised, organisers are asking anyone wishing to take part to sign up by Thursday, August 21 (details are on the noticeboard in the clubroom).

Alternatively, please email hcc.secretary@live.co.uk expressing your interest, so you can be included in a team.

Players will be asked to make a £5 donation to charity, and each will receive a team shirt with thanks to Newtrim.

Organisers ask all those taking part and attending the event to please bring cash, especially for when registering to play and the raffle (card transactions will be accepted for auction items).

It's planned to have a BBQ (halal meat and vegetarian) and the bar will be open all day.

Thanks to those who have already volunteered to help on the BBQ, starting from 12noon, and the bar. More volunteers are welcome.

If you can help out, please contact one of the organisers (see below).

It's intended to have a supply of ice lollies, while music is to be played during the games and 'Good Vibes Only' are to play in the evening.

Elements of the day are also available for sponsorship (eg BBQ, live music, winners' medals etc) if you wish to get involved in that way.

For more details, please contact chief organiser Diddy (07379 408069), Russell Smith, Stuart Bishop, Jenny Carter, Steve Richardson or Kevin Creed.

Please support the club in this charity fundraising venture.
