Main's 5-34 boosts Horspath 3rd's promotion bid

19 Aug 2025

Seamer Dougal Main claimed his first five-wicket haul in the Cherwell League as Horspath 3rd boosted their Division 4B promotion hopes with a resounding 101-run victory at third-placed Charlbury.

The win sees Horspath leap up from fourth to second place - seven points ahead of Charlbury in third - while Stonesfield drop to fourth following their 223-run defeat by Kingston Bagpuize, who are crowned champions with three games left.

With Horspath having posted 214 all out after being put in to bat, Main ripped through Charlbury's top order to return figures of 5-34 from a superb 10-over spell as the home side slumped to 59-5.

Spinners Luke Heritage (3-32) and Julius Leslie (2-13) ensured there was no way back for the hosts, who were bowled out for 113.

Wicket-keeper Tejas Anand took four catches - including three of Main's victims - while Heritage claimed three catches with two off his own bowling.

Earlier, Ansh Chande (49) had top-scored for Horspath with good support from Archie Lewins (35), while Joe Gibbs (28), Azlan Sharif (26) and Leslie (22) also chipped in as Jake Godfrey took 3-46.

Horspath bid to step up their promotion bid on Saturday at home to eighth-placed Cumnor 2nd, who beat Chipping Norton by four wickets.

Horspath 4th's six-game unbeaten run in Division 6C ended with a five-wicket defeat at home to fourth-placed Golden Sparrows.

The hosts were bowled out for 117 after being put in to bat with only Harsh Singh (24) making much impression as extras top-scored with 32. Imran Khan (4-17) was the chief destroyer.

Sparrows then secured victory at 118-5 despite Adrian Manger following up last week's career-best 8-38 with 3-24. Harshul Monga (37no) and Ravichandran Rallabhandi (23no) saw the visitors home.

Horspath are away on Saturday to fifth-placed Harwell International, who lost by 128 runs to leaders Abingdon Vale 2nd.
