Horspath CC are excited to announce the club will again be staging a Charity Fun Tape Ball Cricket Six-A-Side Competition at the Recreation Ground on Bank Holiday Sunday, August 24.
The event proved a big success last year with £2,750 being raised for Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
The chosen charity this time is Sobell House Hospice, which was felt to be highly appropriate as the club sadly lost three members - Stan Hawkeswood, Paul Headford and Paul Hicks - in the past year who received care there.
Sobell are grateful the club have thought of them and are looking forward to supporting the event.
The competition, which is due to take place from 11am onwards, is for club members, friends and family.
To involve all sections of the club it's planned that teams should be made up of two men's cricketers, a women's cricketer, a junior player plus two supporters/parents.
For those that don't know, Tape Ball is a tennis ball wrapped in electrical tape, and as such the modified ball is not as hard or heavy as a cricket ball, reducing the risk of injury to players and spectators, and thereby, making the event more accessible to all.
Music is set to be played during the games, and 'Good Vibes Only', who were well received when appearing at the club recently, are due to play in the evening.
There are several ways to get involved.
1 Sign up to play (details are on the noticeboard in the clubroom) with team members asked to make a nominal £5 donation to charity to take part.
2 Donate prizes for a raffle and an auction, which are to be held on the day. All prizes/donations will be gratefully received.
3 Volunteer to help on the day. It's planned to have a BBQ and the bar will be open all day.
4 Sponsor an element of the day (eg the live music, BBQ, tape balls, winners' medals etc). In return your contribution will be recognized in publicity of the event.
For more details and information, please contact secretary Russell Smith, Stuart Bishop, Jenny Carter or chief organiser Diddy.
All ideas etc for the day are welcome.
Please support the club in this fundraising effort.
