Horspath's dreams of making it to Lord's in the Voneus Village Cup were shattered for another year with an agonising nine-run defeat at home to Painswick in the fifth round at the Recreation Ground.
The Gloucestershire champions' success in the last-32 tie was built on a superb third-wicket stand of 151 between opener Alastair Conolly (94no) and Luke Woolway (62) after the visitors had chosen to bat.
Horspath did well to peg Painswick back to 226-6 in front of a crowd of around 300 before staging a valiant run chase with Stephen Green (73) leading the way only to fall short on 217-7.
A blustery afternoon saw the West of England Premier Cricket League Premier 2 Glos/Wilts visitors make a solid start with openers Conolly and Reece Morris putting on 38.
However, the introduction of Ryan Hicks produced the breakthrough as Reece came down the pitch to his third delivery and was stumped by Rob Wight for 20.
And the left-arm spinner enjoyed further success when David Bennett top-edged a drive to Green in the covers, making it 42-2.
But then Conolly and Woolway took charge as they got on top of the Oxfordshire champions bowling, mixing boundaries with excellent running between the wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking.
They had moved to score on to 101-2 when rain led to a 21-minute stoppage, but when play resumed they carried on where they had left off.
Conolly brought up his half-century with a single behind square leg and the 100-run stand was secured when Conolly square cut for four.
Horspath skipper Amin Rafiq rang the changes with his bowlers, but the Painswick pair continued to clock up the runs with Woolway going to his fifty with a single down to long on by the nets.
They had just completed a 150-run partnership when Asad Rafiq returned to the attack to end their partnership with Woolway skying a steepling catch to square leg where Tyron Eyles did incredibly well to hold on to the catch as he dived to the ground, leaving Painswick 193-3. Woolway hit five fours and a six over mid-wicket in his 78-ball stay.
Five runs later, Eyles bowled Jonathan Conolly and then he trapped Rogan Wolhuter lbw for 14 as he attempted a reverse sweep.
With Asad removing Painswick skipper Jack Hobbis courtesy of a Jehan Mohammed catch at square leg, Horspath had rallied in spirited fashion after Painswick looked poised to post a formidable total.
Alastair Conolly was undefeated at the close with his 108-ball knock including 11 fours, while Eyles, impressed with 2-12 from his three overs, with Hicks (2-34) and Asad (2-54) the other wicket-takers.
Opener Tejas Anand made a breezy 20 before being bowled by Jonathan Conolly as the Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 2 hosts stuttered to 30-2 in reply.
Green and Josh Richardson steadied the ship, before the latter was caught behind by Woolway off Hobbis for 23, making it 78-3.
Eyles then joined Green and the pair added 72 for the fourth wicket to raise Horspath's hopes. Green had just reached his half-century with a cracking cover drive for four when Eyles, who had used the sweep shot to good effect in reaching 47, was bowled by Mgcinumuzi Ndela to leave Horspath 150-4 after 32 overs.
With the run rate hovering around 9.5 an over, Green kept Horspath in touch. He had just hit a six over mid-wicket towards the car park when he checked a drive off Reece Morris's next delivery and was caught by Ndela at cover.
Brothers Amin and Asad (18no) kept Horspath's outside chances alive hitting a six apiece, but with the run rate spiraling, 22 were required off the last over bowled by Jonathan Conolly.
It proved too stiff a target and with Amin slicing a catch to Jacob Moore at point from the final delivery for 14, Painswick ran out deserved winners.
They are now at home in the last 16 to old rivals Goatacre (Dorset & Wiltshire) on July 6 after they bowled Perranporth (Devon & Cornwall) out for 74 to set up a five-wicket win.
