Horspath Women finish fourth in Super 8s

10 Jun 2025

Horspath completed the first phase of the season with a fourth-place finish in Home Counties Women's Cricket League Super 8 Development Group 1.

The side occupied a mid-table spot after winning four of their eight games.

Newcomers Anushka Satish, Prathyusha Yarlagadda, Georgina Arnold, Bryony O'Neill, Danica Williams and Rebecca Bonsaver were welcomed into the side and all contributed with the bat, ball and in the field, the latter trio making excellent debuts as wicket-keepers.

Significant development this season has been evident, most notably with strong partnerships being built - some which were match-winning while others demonstrated excellent running between the wickets.

Although there were some close losses it was more a result of wickets falling as opposed to the side not scoring runs.
Horspath's improvement in the field also didn’t go unnoticed as bowlers and fielders stepped up to the plate.
Unfortunately, the season didn’t go amiss without injuries, including broken fingers, which now sees key players taking on other roles, such as scoring. Whilst the camaraderie continues, they will be missed on the pitch.

Captain Munaza Dogar said: "Without the commitment and contribution each individual has displayed at both training and in matches this team wouldn’t exist. A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of our players and coaches without whom none of this would be possible."

Horspath rounded off the campaign with a 20-run victory over hosts Abingdon Vale in a competition played on a triangular basis, before slipping to an 83-run defeat against Oxenford.

With players batting in pairs, 27 runs from Munaza and Bryony took Horspath to 98-4 and a net score of 278 after being put in to bat by Abingdon.

Anushka (3-21) and Victoria Montgomery, who took 2-22 and two catches, then led the way as Vale were held to 93-7 and a net 258 with captain Felicity Jefferis-Boyd making 21.

Horspath were unable to repeat the feat against Oxenford after being put in to bat and restricted to 58-7 for a net 223 with Jessy McCabe (4-11) doing the damage.

Oxenford, who finished group runners-up, then posted 116-2 for a net 306 with Kehkashan Shah (27) and Daisy O'Connor (22) in the runs.

Horspath had opened the competition in early May with a brace of wins at home to Abingdon Vale and Faringdon & District.

Seven runs was the margin of victory over Vale with Abigail Wallace hitting 18 in a partnership of 28 with Tracey Isaac to take Horspath to 100-6 and a net 270 after they were put in to bat.

Victoria then took 2-6 and with Irum Ibrahim, Anushka and Abigail also picking up wickets, Abingdon were held to 88-5 and a net 263.

Horspath made it a double on the day with a 13-run triumph over Faringdon, who made 93-4 for a net 273 after being inserted.

Tracey, the fourth leading runscorer in the group with 95 runs, struck an unbeaten 23 to steer Horspath to victory at 106-4 for a net 286, with good support from Rebecca as the pair added 33.

In the second round of matches at Wadham College, Horspath went down by 33 runs to hosts Oxenford, who made 78-0 for a net 278 after being put in to bat.

Despite the side not taking any wickets, there were economical four-over spells by Abigail and Tracey.

Horspath replied with 85-8 for a net 245 with Tracey (13no), who added 28 runs with Danica, and Irum Ibrahim (12no) leading the way as Frieda Hall Hickman took 4-17.

Tracey (20no) top-scored again in a 16-run defeat by Oxford Downs.

Adding 30 runs with Munaza, they set the side on the way to 82-6 and a net 252 after choosing to bat, while Jen Carter (10no) provided good support.

Downs secured victory, though, with 78-2 and a net 268 despite a wicket apiece for Irum and Victoria plus an accurate spell by Tracey.

Horspath were hosts for the third round of matches, opening up with a 44-run defeat by Oxenford, who posted 110-1 for a net 305 after being inserted with Frances Goodliffe (1-22) the lone wicket-taker.

Tracey (17no), who added 35 runs with Irum, led the way in Horspath's reply of 86-5 and a net 261.

The side then beat Faringdon & District by 29 runs with Tracey, who added 35 runs with Rebecca, and Munaza making 15 apiece in a score of 103-4 for a net 283 after being put in to bat.

A fine display in the field saw Faringdon held to 69-3 and a net 254 with a wicket each for Tracey, Frances and Saba Abbas.

Next up for Horspath is the opening Oxfordshire Women's Hundred fixture against Oxenford at Jesus College on Friday, June 13 (6pm).
