Horspath announce captains for 2025 campaign

12 Mar 2025

Horspath are delighted to announce their captains for the 2025 season.

Amin Rafiq steps up to skipper Horspath as the club return to the Home Counties Premier Cricket League.

Meanwhile, Munaza Dogar will again lead Horspath in the Home Counties Women's Cricket League.

Off-spinner Amin takes over from Director of Cricket Will Eason, who steps aside after two seasons at the helm in his latest spell as captain, having guided the club to promotion as the Cherwell League Division 1 champions last year.

Amin has captained the side in the shorter format for the last two seasons, leading Horspath to a superb T20 double last year as the club lifted the Hartwell Trophy and Pullinger Cup in which he was man of the match.

A big-hitting lower order batsman, he also skippered the side which won the Oxfordshire final of the Voneus Village Cup last year and steered the team to finish runners-up in the Hartwell Trophy in 2023.

He will be assisted in the side's Division 2 campaign by vice-captain Josh Richardson, the club's talented batsman and leg-spinner.

Munaza has been at the forefront of Horspath Women's progression from softball cricket to the hardball game, leading the side in their debut Home Counties Women's League Division 3 campaign last year.

A left-handed batter and left-arm seamer, she also captained the team to third-place groups finishes in the inaugural Oxfordshire Hundred and Super 8 Development competitions.

All-rounder Victoria Montgomery, who has captained Horspath during their successful Oxfordshire Indoor League programme this winter, takes on the role of vice-captain.

Ryan Hicks will again lead Horspath 2nd in Cherwell League Division 2, having guided the side to fourth place last season.

The all-rounder previously had two seasons as the 3rd XI captain, leading the side to a memorable Airey Cup triumph in 2023.

Experienced all-rounder Mohson Rana once more takes charge of Horspath 3rd in Division 4B with the team looking to bounce back from the disappointment of dropping down a tier last year when the club's lower sides were hit by an unusually high number of injuries and unavailability.

Those same issues also badly affected Horspath 4th, who will be captained for a fifth successive season by opening batsman and wicket-keeper Craig Wharton as the side embark on a fresh start in Division 6C.

In many ways the team were a victim of their own success last year, having been promoted as Division 6A champions in 2023 to complete a brilliant double after capturing the Steve Dixon Memorial Cup.

The emphasis will again be placed here on providing the club's promising youngsters with an opportunity to progress into adult cricket.

The club wishes all the captains and vice-captains every success in 2025.
