Rabiya hits superb 98* in Hurricanes win

05 Aug 2024

Rabiya Dogar hammered a brilliant unbeaten 98 off 61 balls as Horspath Hurricanes made it two wins out of two in the Oxfordshire Women's Hundred with a 22-run triumph over Oxenford at the Recreation Ground.
Fresh from smashing a superb 84 not out in the victory at Freeland, the young opener produced another whirlwind knock with 14 fours to take the Hurricanes to 154-5 in the Group A encounter after winning the toss and electing to bat.
Despite the loss of an early wicket, Rabiya and Milla Allison then shared a partnership of 35 to set Horspath on their way.
Wickets fell in two successive overs to leave the hosts 43-3, before Rabiya put on 27 with Jenny Carter to put the pressure back on the visitors.
Rabiya raced to her half-century, sharing a stand of 81 for the fifth wicket with Victoria Montgomery (14).
When Irum Ibrahim arrived at the crease, there were four balls remaining with Rabiya four runs away from her maiden century.
Despite Irum’s best efforts to help Rabiya achieve the milestone, she fell just short at the end of a memorable innings. Hannah Webster (2-15) and captain Daisy O'Connor (2-30) were the pick of the Oxenford attack.
A fine display in the field by the Hurricanes then restricted the visitors to 132-2.
Oxenford put on 86 for the first wicket, before Milla, who soldiered on despite sustaining a foot injury while batting, made the breakthrough by bowling Sophia Leroy (23).
Saba Abbas then produced a superb low caught and bowled dismissal to remove fellow opener Webster for 36.
The Horspath bowlers were well supported by some excellent boundary fielding, notably from Cath Turner, whose efforts included a phenomenal sliding dive to stop a four, debutant Olivia Barton and Krisha Vora.
Milla (1-9) and Saba (1-18) were the Hurricanes wicket-takers, while captain Munaza Dogar conceded just 16 runs from 20 balls, with the win putting the side top of the table.
