Narayan slams 94 in Pullinger Cup win
30 Jun 2024
Viv Narayan hammered a stunning 94 off 53 balls to fire
Horspath
to a 93-run victory at Aston Rowant 2nd in the Cherwell League's Pullinger Cup quarter-final.
Narayan cracked 10 fours and two sixes in his superb knock to set Horspath on the way to a formidable 199-5 after they had chosen to bat in their first venture into the new T20 competition for Tiers 1 and 2 sides.
He was well supported by fellow opener Lachlan Biggs with 38 off 22 balls, before Asad Rafiq ensured the innings finished with a flourish by slamming an unbeaten 23 from 14 deliveries. Jack North (2-29) was the pick of the home attack.
Horspath then used nine bowlers to dismiss Rowant, who were reduced to nine batsmen due to injuries sustained while fielding, for 106.
Left-arm spinner Ryan Hicks (2-15) was Horspath's most successful bowler with his victims including top-scorer Lockam, who made 27.
Now Horspath can look forward to having home advantage when the club host finals day on Sunday, July 21.
The other quarter-finals see Oxford Downs 2nd at home to Cropredy, Didcot entertain Cumnor and Westbury host Banbury 2nd.
Horspath 4th
bowed out of the Telegraph Cup with a 107-run defeat at holders Risinghurst in the quarter-finals.
The defending champions posted 195-5 after electing to bat in the 40-overs-a-side competition for Tier 5 sides.
Horspath had the hosts 64-4, before Rajaguru Periasamy (49no) and Manan Rathi (38no) shared an unbroken stand of 84 for the sixth wicket. Sammy Parker (2-30) was the chief wicket-taker.
The visitors were never in the hunt after slipping to 8-3 in reply, before being bowled out 88 off 22 overs despite opener Eddie Gadd hitting 40. Abdur Khan (3-8) led the way for Risinghurst.
