Healey and Betts star in Horspath 2nd's win

11 Jul 2023

PETE Healey and Tom Betts hammered half-centuries as Horspath 2nd recorded a resounding 136-run win at home to Westbury in Cherwell League Division 1.
Healey made 60 off 77 balls with six fours and two sixes, while Betts blasted eight boundaries in his unbeaten 59 from 65 deliveries to take Horspath to 226-4 off 44 overs after they were inserted.
They shared a stand of 106 for the fourth wicket after Christopher Hofen (46) and skipper Joey Todd (40) had laid the foundations with an opening partnership of 69.
Healey went to his half-century with a six over long on down towards the nets, while Betts brought up his fifty by pulling a delivery to the mid-wicket boundary by the hedge.
Westbury then crashed to 90 all out with Subhan Javaid (2-14) getting Horspath off to a dream start by striking with the first and last ball of the opening over.
The visitors plunged even deeper into trouble at 5-3 and 19-4 as Erasmus du Toit (3-20) took the next three wickets.
Only opener Tom Gurney (34) made any headway before the seam and spin of Touseef Ahmad (2-12) and Joval Calix (2-14) respectively mopped up the tail.
The win moves Horspath up two places to fifth in the table ahead of Saturday's trip to Dinton, who are in eighth spot. Click here for the match highlights.
