Misfiring Horspath 2nd suffer loss
26 Jun 2023
HORSPATH 2nd's
batting misfired as they slipped to a four-wicket defeat at Cropredy in their Cherwell League Division 1 mid-table clash.
The visitors were bowled out for 168 after electing to bat with only skipper Joey Todd (38) making any headway at the top of the order.
Joseph Sparkes (4-43), Joe Coggins (3-35) and Muhammad Tareq Jamil (3-48) shared the wickets.
Subhan Javaid (2-22) and Ed Oakley (2-37) combined to help reduce Cropredy to 41-3 and 89-5.
But then Jake Walters (43) and Josh Tustian (30no) put on 67 for the sixth wicket to take Cropredy to the brink of victory, which was secured at 169-6.
Horspath 3rd's
climb up the Division 3A table came to a halt with a three-wicket defeat against bottom club Oxenford at Jesus College Sports Ground.
The visitors, who went into the game in third spot, were bowled out for 151 after being put in to bat with only Dougal Main (44) showing any form as Amer Ali (5-39) and Muhammad Usman (4-53) did the damage.
Horspath's bowlers made Oxenford battle for the runs with the hosts finally getting home at 153-7 off 54 overs as Anoop Reddy took 3-30. Roshan Gedara (31) top-scored for Oxenford.
Lukas Yendole hit an unbeaten half-century as
Horspath 4th
regained the winning thread with a five-wicket victory at home to Long Marston 2nd to return to the top of Division 6A.
Having inserted the visitors and restricted them to 197-8, Horspath claimed victory at 201-5 with seven balls to spare.
Yendole led the side home with 62 not out from 67 balls, which included eight fours and a six. He was well supported by opener Tejas Anand (38) and Chris Jones (26).
Earlier, Azlan Sharif (3-34) and Robin Pykett (3-48) had pegged Long Marston back after they had been 140-3.
Simon Robinson made 63 from 67 balls with nine fours after openers Peter Toovey (47) and Gavin Thurairajah (29) had put on 73 for the first wicket.
