Jalill's all-round show brings Horspath T20 win
22 Jun 2023
MINHAJ Jalill produced a devastating all-round display with five wickets and a blistering half-century as Horspath opened their challenge in the Hartwell Senior Cup Pool 1 with a six-wicket win at Challow & Childrey.
The Sri Lankan returned superb figures of 5-14 off four overs to help restrict the home side to 127-9 in the T20 clash, before blasting 63 off 33 balls to lead Horspath to 128-4 with 3.2 overs to spare.
Dylan Crees got Challow off to a flying start by crashing three sixes in his 46 off 25 balls as they raced to 54-0 after choosing to bat before Jalill came into the attack and took four wickets in the space of six balls.
Horspath's overseas star bowled the Australian opener and then took three wickets in his next over as Challow slumped to 58-4.
Ben Bishop cracked 30 to rally the hosts before off-spinner Jalill returned to complete his five-wicket haul in the penultimate over. Subhan Javaid took 2-30, while Tyrone Eyles conceded just 12 runs from his four overs.
The visitors slipped to 9-2 in reply, but then Jalill and Stephen Green took charge by putting on 82 for the third wicket.
Jalill smashed seven fours and two sixes before he was caught by Conor Jones off Harry Robson, while Green went on to make 42 from 37 deliveries as Horspath coasted home.
Next up for the side in the competition is a home game against Cumnor on Tuesday (6pm).
