Ahmad and Coleman fifties in vain for Horspath 2nd

05 Jun 2023

HUSSAAN Ahmad and Tom Coleman hit fine half-centuries, but it wasn't enough to bring Horspath 2nd victory as the side fell to an 11-run defeat at Cherwell League Division 1 leaders Bicester & North Oxford.
Chasing Bicester's 231 all out after the home side had elected to bat, Horspath were well placed with Coleman and Christopher Hofen (38) sharing an excellent opening stand.
Coleman made 54 from 73 balls before new recruit Ahmad weighed in with his maiden Cherwell fifty, making 59 from 65 balls.
But after they had been dismissed the innings fell away with only Tyrone Eyles (27) keeping Horspath in the hunt before they closed on 220-9 off 50 overs.
Ben Clark (3-49) was Bicester's most successful bowler well supported by Daniel Savin (2-42) and Ryan Moore (2-43).
Earlier, Anoop Reddy (4-41) and Josh Richardson (4-48) had shone with the ball for Horspath, pegging Bicester back after Callam Goldthorp top-scored with 75 from 101 deliveries and Zian Stoop made 51.
Horspath 3rd made it back-to-back wins in Division 3A with an exciting two-wicket victory at home to leaders Abingdon Vale.
Having bowled out the visitors for 208 after they had chosen to bat, Horspath lost wickets at regular intervals in their run chase.
Acting skipper Dan Todd hit ten fours in his 54 off 56 balls at the top of the order and Charlie Turner made 42 before he fell to make it 132-5.
Joval Calix (27) and Dougal Main (23) kept Horspath on target, before Joe Gibbs saw them home at 210-8 with nine balls to spare.
Tim Chilvers took 2-35 for Abingdon, while left-arm spinner Paul White (1-27) was the pick of their attack.
Earlier, Sameer Hashimi (2-20) and Josh Cummings (2-25) had impressed for Horspath in Abingdon's innings, while Main chipped in with 2-36 and Joval Calix 2-50.
Opener Chilvers made 30, but the visitors were struggling at 91-7, before Henry Pickford smashed 62 off 37 balls with five fours and six sixes. Matthew Darley was unbeaten on 28 when Abingdon were all out.
Skipper Craig Wharton and Azlan Sharif hammered half-centuries as Horspath 4th made it four straight wins with a 28-run victory at Great Brickhill 3rd to march on at the top of Division 6A.
Wharton cracked 57 and Sharif made 55 to set the visitors on the way to 198-8 off 45 overs after they had been put in to bat. David Allen (3-48) was Brickhill's top wicket-taker.
Stuart Berry (4-23) then led the way with the ball for Horspath as Brickhill were bowled out for 170 with tailender Ethan Viljoen making an unbeaten 53.
Sharif completed a fine all-round game with 2-28, while Andy Cummings took 2-29 and there was a wicket apiece for James Crosby and Sam Murphy.
