Horspath set for Oxon final in Village Cup
02 Jun 2023
HORSPATH hit the Voneus Village Cup trail again with a trip to Tiddington in the Oxfordshire final on Sunday.
Will Eason's side have reached the fourth round with excellent wins over the Baldons, Shipton-under-Wychwood and the reigning county champions Oxford Downs.
Tiddington, meanwhile, have won four games after starting off in the preliminary round with a 77-run victory over Sandford St Martin, who were shot out for 33.
They followed up with a 62-run win over Great & Little Tew, before defeating Langford by three wickets and then Aston Rowant by 80 runs.
Horspath will be bidding to repeat their success of two years ago when they claimed the regional crown with a commanding 80-run victory at home to Rowant.
That was the first time for 42 years the club had won the county final, having beaten Tiddington in the 1979 decider.
The two clubs also met in the Oxon final at Horspath 10 years ago when Tiddington came out on top.
Tiddington's most notable season in the competition came in 1995 when they went all the way to Lord's, finishing runners-up with the side including current Horspath 4th XI players Robin Pykett, who was captain, and Adrian Manger.
The prize for the winners is a home tie in the national rounds on June 18 against either Congresbury or Wembdon, who contest the Somerset & Avon final.
All supporters are welcome.
Before Sunday, Horspath have a full programme tomorrow. The 1st XI are at home to Buckingham Town in Home Counties Premier League Division 2, while the 2nd XI are away to Cherwell League Division 1 leaders Bicester & North Oxford.
The 3rd XI entertain Division 3A frontrunners Abingdon Vale, while the 4th XI seek to consolidate top spot in Division 6A when they visit Great Brickhill 3rd.
