Horspath rocked by spectacular collapse
30 May 2023
HORSPATH'S hopes of challenging early pacesetters Great Brickhill in their Home Counties Premier League Division 2 encounter disappeared in a clatter of wickets as the visitors crashed to a 147-run defeat.
Facing Brickhill's 283 all out after the home side had elected to bat, Horspath reached 80-1 off 20 overs with Max Smith making 40 and opener Jimmy Phillips 30 when they lost six wickets for eight runs.
There was no way back from there and the side were eventually bowled out for 136.
Off-spinner Marcus Critchley was the chief destroyer with 4-50, before Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Navin Kavikara (3-21) polished off the innings.
Earlier, Horspath skipper Will Eason had shone with 4-55 in Brickhill's innings as the hosts rattled up a formidable total.
Off-spinner Amin Rafiq weighed in with 3-65, but Brickhill captain Critchley blasted four fours and as many sixes to top score with 69 off 83 balls.
Taran Toor made 61 from 65 deliveries with six fours and a six, sharing a second-wicket stand of 91 with Rhys Nicholas (44).
Critchley then put on 72 for the fourth wicket with Jonny Cater (39), before Eason and Rafiq each struck twice as the visitors claimed four wickets for the addition of seven runs to leave Brickhill 237-8.
But Jock Rodnight then slammed two sixes in his 28 off 18 balls to take the hosts to their final total before being the last man out off the final ball of the innings, giving Touseef Ahmad a second victim.
Despite the defeat, Horspath remain in sixth place.
