TOM Smith produced a stunning all-round display with a half-century and five wickets as Horspath 4th claimed an exciting five-run victory at home to Buckingham Town 4th to take top spot outright in Cherwell League Division 6A.
Smith made 59 to steer Horspath to 174-7 following a top-order collapse after the hosts had been put in to bat.
He hit 10 fours in his 91-ball stay and received good support from Stuart Berry (44no) as they turned the innings round.
William Rogers (2-16), Josh Smith (2-36) and Chris Petrie (2-36) had wreaked havoc among the Horspath batsmen early on.
Buckingham looked to be heading for victory before Smith was introduced into the attack and turned the game on its head with a brilliant spell of 5-26 off 5.4 overs to send the visitors crashing to 169 all out. Ryan Spragg (35) top-scored for Buckingham.
