Turner hits maiden fifty in Horspath 3rd's win
01 Aug 2022
ALFIE Turner (pictured) cracked a maiden Cherwell League half-century as Horspath 3rd kept up their tremendous run with a three-wicket win at Wolverton Town in Cherwell League Division 3A.
With Wolverton having been restricted to 194-8 after being put in to bat, the teenage opener struck a fine 75 to set Horspath on the way to victory at 195-7.
He stood firm as Horspath lost early wickets to Sohail Ali (3-33) before going on to hit 14 fours in his 111-ball knock.
Mohson Rana (46) provided good support in the middle order, before skipper Ryan Hicks (19no) ensured Horspath secured their ninth win in their last 10 games.
Earlier, Ed Oakley (3-32) led the way with the ball in Wolverton's innings with Hicks (2-30) also among the wickets.
Skipper Jamil Raja smashed an unbeaten 51 off 37 balls with five fours and three sixes to boost Wolverton's total after Ahmed Mujtba made 31.
Opener Dominic O'Connor, who has made half-centuries in the Home Counties Premier League, added to his collection in Division 5C with an unbeaten 61 to steer Horspath 4th to an eight-wicket home win over Clifton Hampden.
The left-hander has been unavailable so far this season due to work commitments, so found himself in much calmer waters than he is accustomed to.
Chasing Clifton's 142 all out after they had been put in to bat, he made the most of the gilt-edged opportunity by stroking 13 fours as the hosts raced to victory at 146-2 off 19.2 overs.
He was well supported by Hadi Ali (41) after left-arm seamer Alex Jackson (4-25) had been the chief destroyer in Clifton's innings.
Off-spinner Luke Heritage (3-38), who himself has Premier League experience, continued his comeback from a broken finger by taking 3-38. Muhammad Dogar, Josh Cummings and Sameer Hashimi picked up a wicket apiece in tidy spells.
