Tring v Horspath Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 04 Jul 2015 at 11.00
Horspath Cricket Club Won by 140 runs
Match report
Adam Price picked up a five wicket haul after Robbie Eason carried his bat for an unbeaten 81 as Horspath posted a crushing 140-run victory at Tring Park in Division 1.
Price returned figures of 5-36 with his engaging mix of left arm seam and spin to help send Tring crashing to 67 all out following Eason’s sterling effort, which had led Horspath to 207-8.
With overnight rain having left one-third of the pitch saturated, it looked like it could be a crucial toss to win and Tring skipper Duncan Maddinson had little hesitation in inserting the visitors.
After a slow start, Horspath steadily upped the tempo, with Eason and Jimmy Phillips putting on 95 for the second wicket. Phillips had made 64 off 88 balls with ten fours when he fell to a brilliant one-handed catch at extra cover by Michael Payne off Shelvin Gumbs’ off-spin.
Adam Mould’s cameo maintained the momentum, before he was the first of four wickets to fall for eight runs as Horspath slipped to 151-6. But Eason remained rocksolid to take Horspath to a respectable total, with five fours and a six in his 186 balls innings.
Gumbs finished with 5-60 for Tring.
The merit of Eason’s marathon knock quickly became apparent as Price trapped Robin Pritchard lbw with the first ball of Tring’s innings, and then Will Eason dismissed Maddinson in the same fashion to make it 3-2.
Eason struck again to bowl opener Adam Partner, before Price switched ends and turned to spin, taking 4-7 in his second spell. Fellow spinner Adam Krol picked up 3-14 as Tring lost their last seven wickets for 15 runs to capitulate inside 23 overs, with only Gumbs (37) showing any resistance.
The emphatic win takes Horspath up to fifth place – their highest this season.
