Match report Horspath lose out in tense finish at Shipton

Tue 26th April - Match Report Bank Holiday Monday warm up match

Horspath lost by two wickets with one ball remaining in an entertaining hard fought friendly on a perfect afternoon at the picturesque Shipton ground.



Having been inserted Horspath quickly lost Matt O'Connor but Joey Todd and Robbie Eason settled in to a profitable 2nd wicket partnership taking the score to 90 at the halfway stage. Both Robbie and Joey favoured the short pavillion bounday. Robbie was first to go for a fluent 67 with Joey falling shortly after for 54 which was some consolation for featuring in an Oxford Harlequin side thoroughly thrashed by Chinnor in the Oxford rugby final the day before. Jonah didn't last long as the latter half of the Horspath innings was dominated by the in form Jehan with powerful shots all round the ground. Greeny played a nice little cameo before trying to clear the longest boundary. Jehan finished on an unbeaten 71 as athe innings closed after 40 overs on 236 - 5. Sean Miller as usual was the pick of the bowlers.



Will Eason and Dean Creed both took the early wickets of Hemmings and Brain as Shipton began their reply. However, the guesting Ian Crosby and Captain Simon Hole quickly began to restore the damage and with the Horspath seamers unable to find the right length or line they kept the reply well in front of the required rate. At 20 overs the score stood at 125 - 2 however, not for the first time the Horspath fightback started with an excellent spell by dan Todd aided by a good catch by Greeny. Crosby departed on 49. Jason Hunt kept Hole company with a typically hard hit fifty before Jehan was rewarded for a tidy spell with his wicket. Toddy captured the important wicket of Hole shortly afterwards and with those two gone the Shipton innings imploded as Toddy captured the wicket of Barratt aided by a stumping from his brother. Two run outs followed courtesy of good work by Jonah and Greeny and a little help from Jerry Senior. However he stood firm and with 5 required off the last Moony over he and Sean Miller saw Shipton home.
