Horspath chase Village Cup glory

Horspath bid to be crowned Oxfordshire area champions in the Cawston Press Village Cup for the fifth time in six years when Langford visit the Recreation Ground for the county final on Sunday (1pm).
The two sides met in the regional semi-final at the west Oxfordshire club 12 months ago when Horspath triumphed by four runs in a thrilling encounter. 
That nail-biting win saw Horspath go on to the area final where they secured a resounding 228-run victory at home to Aston Rowant - the eighth time the club have been area champions.
It continued a brilliant run of success in the Oxon area of the competition this decade, beginning in 2021 when a 42-year wait to reclaim the county crown was achieved with a memorable 80-run victory at home to Rowant.
Horspath went out to Rowant with a 42-run defeat in the second round a year later, but regained the crown in 2023 with a thrilling one-wicket victory off the last ball at Tiddington.
A successful defence was staged in 2024 with a nerve-jangling four-wicket win at Oxford Downs, before last year's victory made it a three in a row.
This time, Horspath have reached the decider with three away wins. An opening 79-run victory at Cumnor was followed by a stunning 10-wicket win at Sandford St Martin before Tiddington were overpowered by 45 runs.
Langford, who are sixth in the West of England Premier Cricket League Gloucestershire division, have also travelled around Oxfordshire in their three games to reach this stage.
They started with a seven-wicket win at Minster Lovell, before easing past Oxford Downs by 61 runs and then winning by three wickets at Cropredy.
The prize for the winners of the fourth-round match is a home tie against the winners of the Glamorgan & Gwent regional final between Clydach and Lisvane in the national rounds on Sunday, June 21. All supporters are welcome.
The Village Cup tie forms part of a big double-header at the Rec this weekend for Horspath with Stoke Green the visitors in Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 2 on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Horspath 2nd are away to Bicester & North Oxford in Cherwell League Division 1.
Horspath 3rd travel to Bletchley Town in Division 3B, while Horspath 4th are at home to Haddenham in Division 6C.
