Nichols hits ton in Horspath's Village Cup win
13 May 2026
Tom Nichols made a sparkling unbeaten century as Horspath marched on in the Cawston Press Village Cup with a stunning 10-wicket win at Sandford St Martin in the Oxfordshire Group second round.
Facing the Cherwell League Division 2A hosts' 165-8 after they had elected to bat, the opener hit 107 not out off 65 balls as last year's regional winners raced home at 166-0 off 17.5 overs.
His superb knock included 18 fours and two sixes as Dan Todd (28no) was content to play a supporting role for the Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 2 visitors.
Nichols went to three figures with a four before completing victory in style by also hitting the next delivery to the boundary.
Earlier, Horspath had kept a tight rein on the Sandford batsmen with Asad Rafiq (2-9) striking twice as the hosts plunged to 18-3.
Chris Thompson (50) and captain George Welch (23) set about repairing the damage, before Horspath skipper Will Eason had his Sandford counterpart caught by Tyron Eyles to make it 59-4.
Steven Dobson joined Thompson to put on 63 for the fifth wicket only to be bowled by Josh Cummings (2-36) when he had moved on to 34.
Thompson had just completed a battling half-century when he fell to Nichols with the catch again being taken by Eyles, who claimed two wickets in the last over to return figures of 2-30.
Now Horspath are away to 1995 national runners-up Tiddington in the third round on Sunday, May 24.
