Horspath launch Jamaica Hurricane Relief Appeal
14 Nov 2025
Horspath have launched a Jamaica Hurricane Relief Appeal in aid of overseas star Derval Green and his family.
Derval made a big impact at the Recreation Ground last season, memorably hitting a brilliant unbeaten 141 with 13 sixes in a resounding win against Wokingham and taking 6-45 in a victory over Falkland.
His arrival at Horspath coincided with a 10-match unbeaten run in the Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division 2, which helped the side finish fifth after challenging for promotion at one point.
He also played a key role in the run to the Hartwell Trophy final, hitting the side's top score of 48 in the showpiece decider, which saw Aston Rowant triumph in a rain-affected contest.
Since returning to the Caribbean, though, his island was hit by Hurricane Melissa, suffering catastrophic devastation.
Sadly, the eye of the hurricane struck the area where Derval lives.
Director of cricket Will Eason has been in regular contact with the all-rounder.
Will reports: "His house withstood much of the hurricane, though his front door and windows were blown out, which he will have to get fixed.
"He currently has 13 people, consisting of family and friends who unfortunately all lost their houses, living with him.
"He has been driving for a couple of hours each day to get food and essentials for the community, though from what I understand, there is a stringent limit on how much fuel is available."
Now Horspath have set up an appeal and are inviting donations to help Derval and his family.
