Tejas's terrific ton boosts Horspath 2nd

27 May 2025

Tejas Anand hit a superb unbeaten century as Horspath 2nd made it three wins out of three with an emphatic nine-wicket victory over Oxford 2nd in Cherwell League Division 2.

Anand lit up the Oxford University Press Sports Ground with a glittering array of strokeplay to finish 108 not out as the visitors raced past Oxford's 198-9 after they had been put in to bat with 13.3 overs to spare.

His sparkling 101-ball innings included 15 fours and a six whipped off his legs over backward square leg.

He led the way in an opening stand of 51 with Dom O'Connor before the left-hander was caught behind by Adam Hall off Rohan Hariharan for 15.

Anand was then joined by Robbie Eason (51no) in an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 151 to see Horspath home at 202-1.

The opener reached his fifty with a single into the covers, before the century stand came up in the 31st over.

Eason, whose runs came off 90 balls and included four boundaries, added yet another fifty to his run tally by pushing two through mid-wicket, before Anand reached an excellent ton with two to fine leg.

And, with the scores level, he secured victory in style by flashing another boundary behind square leg.

Horspath's victory had been built on a solid display with the ball as Oxford were pegged back after reaching 100-1.

Spinner Joval Calix (3-31) led the fightback well supported by Nishi Ranasinghe (2-21), promoted to the 2nd XI after his hat-trick heroics for the 3rd XI a week earlier, while Ed Oakley (1-29) gave little away in his opening spell.

Liam Turnbull (1-31) ended the resistance of Manan Parmar for 58 with Calix taking the first of two catches. The opener had faced 82 balls, hitting six fours and a six.

Faizaan Abbas chipped in with 35, while Oxford were handicapped by captain Mark Beer having to retire hurt on 27 due to a calf injury.

Horspath remain joint top with Westbury ahead of Saturday's home game against third-placed Minster Lovell, who beat Tiddington by six wickets.
