Nishi Ranasinghe took a hat-trick in a five-wicket haul for Horspath 3rd in their 32-run defeat at home to Stonesfield in Cherwell League Division 4B.
Ranasinghe, who had achieved the feat before in a friendly but not in league cricket, achieved every bowler's dream in his fourth over with Stonesfield 88-3 after electing to bat.
He struck first when Fred Holloway (25) spooned a catch up to Josh Cummings at mid-off, before trapping Sam Hart lbw and then bowling Luke Burns with his next two deliveries.
Ranasinghe went on to pick up two more wickets for figures of 5-41 off 10 overs as Stonesfield stumbled to 98-9 with Ady Birkett contributing 32.
But then Stephen Litten (37) and Sam Hibberd (14no) held up Horspath with 69 for the last wicket as the visitors posted 167 all out, Erasmus Du Toit taking 2-15 and Jason Cardy 2-38.
The momentum had swung and the hosts found themselves in a battle, but were still well placed at 87-3.
However, Horspath then collapsed to 135 all out with Tom Gubbins (5-39) the chief destroyer supported by Litten (3-24) as Dougal Main top scored with 28 before becoming one of five lbw victims.
The side will seek to bounce back when they face Oxenford 2nd, who beat Chipping Norton by one run, at Jesus College on Saturday.
Horspath were handed a walkover in the Airey Cup first round on Sunday by East Oxford 2nd, who were unable to raise a side.
A trip to Aston Rowant 3rd, who beat Chearsley by four wickets, now awaits in round two with the tie scheduled for Sunday, July 6.
Horspath 4th were brought back to earth following their opening day win with a 159-run defeat at Bledlow Ridge 2nd in Division 6C.
Dhishanth Benolin (3-25) removed both Ridge openers cheaply after the visitors elected to bowl.
But then David Wells (85) and Jon Gardiner (66) frustrated Horspath with an impressive third-wicket stand to set the hosts on the way to 250-9.
Adrian Manger (2-23) and Ansh Chande (2-24) were also among the wickets.
Horspath, who were handicapped by Chris Jones being unable to bat due to injured quads, then caved in to 91 all out with only youngsters Julius Leslie (25) and Zach Rayner (18) providing any resistance in the middle order. Simon Martin (3-29) did the early damage, before George Keen weighed in with 3-17.
The side are at home to Clifton Hampden, who lost by 38 runs to Abingdon Vale 2nd, on Saturday.
