Green stars as Horspath march on
12 May 2025
Stephen Green smashed an unbeaten 67 to secure Horspath's passage through the Voneus Village Cup second round in a seven-wicket win at Shipton-under-Wychwood.
The reigning Oxfordshire Group champions' success was built on an impressive display in the field as they bowled out the Cherwell League Division 3B hosts out for 120 after they had elected to bat.
Green then powered the visitors to victory at 121-3 with his runs coming off 63 balls and including 11 fours and a six.
Now Horspath are away to Langford, who beat Cumnor by 11 runs, in round three - the area semi-final - on Sunday, May 25.
Josh Richardson had starred with the ball in Shipton's innings, mopping up the tail to finish with 4-16, his haul including top scorer Arun White (23)..
Dan Todd excelled with two direct hit run outs from mid-on, while there was a wicket apiece for Will Eason, brothers Asad and Amin Rafiq plus Jehan Mohammed as the 2002 and 2003 national champions struggled against an accurate attack.
Todd (27) then shared a second-wicket stand of 62 with Green, before the Horspath opener became one of two victims for left-arm spinner Shaun Miller (2-33).
Green maintained the momentum, though, to bring up his half-century before victory was secured off just 21.4 overs.
