Hicks and Smith excel for Horspath 2nd

12 May 2025

Skipper Ryan Hicks returned stunning figures of 5-10 and Max Smith hammered a half-century as Horspath 2nd opened their Cherwell League Division 2 campaign with a resounding 122-run win at home to Tiddington.
Hicks's super spell polished off the visitors for 89 after Smith's 55 had provided the backbone of Horspath's 211 all out following their decision to bat.
Openers Tejas Anand (42) and Dom O'Connor (27) laid the foundations for the home side, before both fell to Ben Smith.
Max Smith stood firm, though, as wickets fell around him, making 55 from 66 balls, with nine fours and a six, before he was lbw to Ben Smith (3-40) and the ninth man out.
Tiddington openers Will Goodman and Archie Davis put on 33 for the first wicket before Liam Turnbull, on his Horspath league debut after joining from Henley, made the breakthrough by having the latter caught behind by Tejas Anand.
That came during an excellent spell from Ed Oakley, who was rewarded with the next two wickets to finish with 2-14 from 10 overs, which included six maidens.
Turnbull's direct hit run out from cover tightened Horspath's grip, before Hicks hastened Tiddington's demise with his five-wicket haul coming off 6.4 overs.
The side are away to Leighton Buzzard Town, who beat Great & Little Tew by eight wickets, next Saturday.
