Richardson shines in Village Cup victory
27 May 2024
Josh Richardson starred with a half-century and four wickets in Horspath's 81-run win in the Oxfordshire area semi-final of the Voneus Village Cup at Shipton-under-Wychwood.
The 19-year-old blasted 62 off 39 balls with three fours and three sixes to take the defending Oxfordshire champions to 239-4 off 40 overs in the third-round tie after they were put in to bat.
Jimmy Phillips, with four fours in his 53 from 76 deliveries, and Tyron Eyles (30) laid the foundations for Horspath's challenging total with an opening stand of 75.
Hussaan Ahmad (42) added 59 for the second wicket with Phillips, before putting on 55 with Richardson, while Elliot Ruff chipped in with an unbeaten 22 off 16 balls late on.
Asad Rafiq reduced Shipton to 36-2, before Jehan Mohammed (2-38) maintained Horspath's hold.
Richardson (4-21) took the key wicket of Shipton skipper Tim Senior (54) before wrapping up the innings with Ryan Hicks (2-36) as the hosts fell to 158 all out.
Horspath are now away to Oxford Downs - who beat Langford by 83 runs - in the Oxfordshire area final on Sunday, June 9.
