Horspath lose early wickets before wash-out
24 Jul 2023
HORSPATH were in a spot of bother at 36-3 when rain forced their Home Counties Premier League Division 2 game at Chesham to be abandoned.
The visitors, who gave a Home Counties debut to 17-year-old Christopher Hofen, were put in to bat in conditions well suited to seam bowling.
Alfie Clifford (2-19) and Kamran Khan (1-17) did the early damage as Horspath were reduced to 25-3, but rain arrived after 9.1 overs and no further play was possible.
With the other four games in Division 2 suffering the same fate it means there is no change in the standings with Horspath remaining in ninth place 19 points from safety.
The side will be looking for a change of fortune when they entertain runaway leaders Great Brickhill on Saturday.
The Bucks club are 40 points clear at the top and were runners-up at Sunday's Home Counties T20 finals day, upsetting High Wycombe by five wickets in the last four before going down by six wickets to Finchampstead in the decider.
Meanwhile, Horspath's three sides in the Cherwell League had their games on Saturday washed out without a ball being bowled - a fate to befall all 89 of the league's fixtures.
The 2nd XI, who are third in Division 1, resume their programme with a trip to fourth-placed Didcot on Saturday.
The 3rd XI have a home double-header, hosting East & West Hendred in Division 3A on Saturday, before facing Oxenford in the Airey Cup semi-final on Sunday.
The 4th XI continue their Division 6A title challenge with a trip to lowly Buckingham Town 4th.
