Todd sparkles in Horspath 4th's triumph

15 May 2023

OPENER Dan Todd hammered 85 as Horspath 4th made a winning start to their Cherwell League Division 6A season with a 107-run victory at Thame Town 3rd.
He shared an excellent first-wicket stand of 152 with skipper Craig Wharton, who made 55, as the visitors posted 200-6 off their 45 overs after being put in to bat.
Todd's superb knock included four fours and two sixes, while Wharton hit two boundaries in his half-century.
New recruit Azlan Sharif chipped in with an unbeaten 27 to take Horspath to their final total as Zac Harris took 3-33.
Thame were then restricted to 93-9. Stuart Berry produced a notable six-over opening spell with six maidens as he didn't concede a run.
Wickets then fell to Robin Pykett (2-21), Adrian Manger, Ben Wise, Sam Murphy and Jason Cardy, before Chris Jones picked up 3-13 on a rare outing with the ball.
Horspath 2nd and 3rd's games at home to Dinton and Great Brickhill 2nd in Division 1 and 3A respectively were cancelled with the Recreation Ground to wet for play following the week's heavy rain.
It means both sides have yet to see any action this season after the opening day washout.
