Horspath in cup mission and Feast Match

15 Sep 2022

HORSPATH are gearing up for a big weekend as they go for glory on Oxfordshire T20 Finals Day at Wormsley on Saturday before hosting the rearranged Feast Match at the Recreation Ground on Sunday.
The club kick-off an exciting 24 hours by facing Banbury in the inaugural Hartwell Senior Cup Final at the picturesque Sir Paul Getty's Ground (2.30pm) below the Chiltern Hills.
The following day Horspath will be back on home territory when they take on the President's XI at the Recreation Ground (11.30am).
The Feast Match has been switched to Sunday for what is believed to be the first time due to the state funeral of Her Majesty the Queen on Monday - the day when the fixture is traditionally held.
It will be Horspath's first appearance on Oxfordshire T20 Finals Day since 2018 when they lifted what was formerly the Bernard Tollett Oxfordshire Cup with a thrilling four-wicket win over Oxford Downs at Wormsley.
That was the club's third triumph in the competition with their previous successes coming against Great & Little Tew at Oxford Downs in 2013 and over Shipton-under-Wychwood at Witney Mills in 2014.
Indeed, no other club than Horspath and Banbury have tasted success in the competition over the last nine years with the north Oxfordshire side posting hat-tricks of wins from 2015-17 and 2019-21.
Horspath booked their place in this year's final - which is a repeat of the 2017 decider when Banbury triumphed by 17 runs - by topping Pool 2 with four wins out of four following victories over Tiddington, Aston Rowant, Oxford Downs and Challow & Childrey.
Elliot Ruff with 106 runs was the top scorer in the group, while left-arm spinner Lloyd Belcher returned the best figures with 4-7 against Downs.
Banbury, who completed an Oxfordshire Cup treble with a 37-run victory over Aston Rowant last year, also boasted a perfect record in qualifying, topping Pool 1 with wins over Cropredy, Oxford, Bicester & North Oxford and Cumnor.
The north Oxfordshire club have also showed their T20 pedigree on the national stage this season with a fantastic run to reach the last four of the Vitality Club Cup.
After winning the final of the Home Counties Premier League competition with a 63-run victory over High Wycombe, Lloyd Sabin's side beat hosts Finedon Dolben and Sileby Town in the Area Finals to move into the last eight.
At the South Regional Finals Day at Basingstoke & North Hants CC, they overcame Bradninch before their T20 adventure was finally ended with an 87-run defeat by Hornchurch, who went on to be crowned national champions with a 10-run win over Barnt Green at Wormsley last Sunday.
Horspath's bid for glory at Wormsley will be preceded by the Wilf Bennett Trophy Final with Shipton-under-Wychwood facing Brackley at 10.30am.
