Horspath to face Banbury in Hartwell Cup Final
27 Jul 2022
HORSPATH will face holders Banbury in the Hartwell Senior Cup Final at Wormsley on September 17 after the north Oxfordshire club booked their place with a comfortable six-wicket win at home to Cumnor last night.
The victory saw the defending champions top Pool 1 with four wins out of four to go through to the decider on Oxfordshire T20 Finals Day at the picturesque Sir Paul Getty's Ground.
Needing to win to be sure of finishing in pole position, Banbury were given a run for their money by Cumnor, who posted 168-3 after choosing to bat.
Harry Ackland smashed 86 off 57 balls with eight fours and three sixes, before Sam Cross hammered an unbeaten 42 from 28 deliveries.
However, Banbury chased down the runs with ease as Australian Kieran Coyne blasted 69 from 40 balls in an opening stand of 103 with Richard Simpson (32).
Their partnership laid the foundation for the holders to coast home at 169-4 with 2.4 overs to spare.
Horspath clinched their place in the final last week by topping Pool 2 with four wins out of four following victories over Tiddington, Aston Rowant, Oxford Downs and Challow & Childrey.
It will be the club's first appearance on Finals Day since 2018 when they lifted the trophy with a thrilling four-wicket win over Downs.
Horspath's bid for glory at Wormsley will be preceded by the Wilf Bennett Trophy Final, which features Shipton-under-Wychwood and Brackley.
