Match report
CRICKET: Horspath blown away by record-breaker Roberts
Horspath were blown away by Henley opener Michael Roberts, who hit a league club record 155 to set the reigning champions on the way to a resounding 143-run victory in Division 1 at the Brakspear Ground.
Roberts flayed the Horspath attack to all parts to take his side to a massive 296-7 off their 50 overs after they had been put in to bat.
His superb innings eclipsed the unbeaten 152 made by Carl Crowe for Henley against Potters Bar five years ago.
And it was also a record score conceded by Horspath, exceeding the 293-4 Gerrards Cross rattled up in 2011.
Roberts’s runs came off 137 balls and included 16 fours and six sixes.
He cut loose in the second half of the innings after Henley has been held to 83-0 off 25 overs with Horspath skipper Will Eason conceding just 14 runs from his ten overs.
However, Roberts and Matthew Rowe (44) then took the game away from them in a 122-run second-wicket stand.
The Berkshire opener was eventually stumped off medium pacer Adam Mould, who picked up 5-59 from his first bowl in the league.
Horspath were never in the hunt, but there was an impressive debut by 15-year-old opener Harrison Ward, who made 47.
Showing maturity beyond his years, the left-hander survived a sharp early chance to hit five fours in his 75-ball stay before being eighth out, lbw to Euan Brock.
Indeed, the Berkshire left-arm spinner took the last five wickets as Horspath tumbled to 153, finishing with 5-33.
