General Information For Adult Cricketers
From the 2010 season, we will field FOUR Saturday sides in the MP Sports Cherwell League Divs 1, 6, 7 and 10 and a Sunday League side in the Thames & Chilterns Sunday Cricket League plus friendly Sunday sides. In addition we compete in several Oxfordshire tournaments, sixes competitions and the npower National Village Cup Competition in which we have been county finalists for the last four years in a row.
Our Saturday Cricket philososphy is that the strongest sides available should play in the first and second teams and that the third and fourth teams should be a mix of experience and youth to bring on our young players. Our Sunday Cricket philosophy is one of competitive fun and priority goes to those who might not have got a game on Saturday.
Horspath has a history of growing many of its own players through a strong and successful youth system. All adult players are expected to contribute at least two evenings per season assisting with the coaching of youth players. We believe our subs and playing costs are amongst the lowest in the League in line with our policy of providing affordable cricket and encouraging members from all social and ethnic backgrounds. Youth coaching is one of the ways our players can put something back into the club.
We welcome players of all levels whether you are a budding professional or a Sunday occasional social player. In the first instance contact our Team Manager, Jonathan Stobart, jonathan@horspathcricket.com (07767 613322) or come down to the club when we are training (Tues and Thurs evening) or Sunday lunchtime when the club is always open throughout the year. We expect all players to participate in the wider life and social activity of the club. Horspath is probably not for you if you like to turn up for a game and leave immediately afterwards.
Horspath Cricket Club is an all volunteer amateur cricket club and we do not pay people to play or coach cricket. We have an informal but growing relationship with Riverside Cricket Club and Tasmania University Cricket Club in Launceston and Hobart, Tasmania, respectively where we exchange young players from time to time.
